Transdimensional Serpent Frieze Art Fair, 2016 Clients — Jon Rafman Studios & Seventeen Gallery Virtual Reality Installation —
In the summer of 2016, I was approached by Seventeen Gallery and Jon Rafman Studios to create a VR site-specific experience for the Frieze London Art Fair. The installation was widely acclaimed at the fair, drawing praise from several publications, including Artsy's Top 20 Best Booths at Frieze London It has since been installed at Sprüth Magers gallery in Los Angeles, and Arsenal Contemporary in Montreal.
As described in Art Agenda by Filipa Ramos, "one of the most complex, generous, and alluring works on view. Its video places viewers in a supernatural environment where dodgy alleys, warm deserts, and cold forests are populated by all sorts of fantastic beings. [The work] manages to expand the ubiquitous reflection on the impact of technology on contemporary life (which dominates the practice of so many of his peers) towards a concrete physical experience that propitiates the fulfillment of corporeal pleasure while speculating on other modes of seeing and being. Alienation appears as a powerful antidote to the anxiety and distress that commonly afflict the art fair visitor."
